This breed is likely to suit energetic people who long to share their lives with merry companions that are always curious about what is going on. The breed does well with children and other pets, and is very people-oriented. If left alone for a long time, the dog is likely to be stressed. These dogs may live indoors if they are supplied with sufficient exercise. A small yard and regular exercise off leash are OK for the breed. Make sure the dog is supervised because it may follow its nose and get lost.

Beagle Buddy -
dog, rescue
The breed name may be linked to a Celtic word that translates as "small" or Old French word for "open throat" in relation to the breed's melodic bark. The exact origin of the breed is uncertain, but the first mention of similar dogs is dated around 400 B.C. Romans brought these dogs to England as rabbit hounds. Later, they crossbred with English local hounds and became very popular among royalty and nobility due to their excellent ability to track the game following its scent.
