Beagles Breeders - Breed History

In ancient times, Beagles' uses were hunting dogs in Greece and France. The first dog of this breed brought from France to Great Britain, became very popular in this country especially with the monarchy. At that time, references made to the various types of the breed were Glove Beagles, Pocket Beagle and Singing Beagles.

The first type of the breed was named so because of the size. Its approximate 9 inches required assistance in crossing rough fields. This fact, however, enabled the ladies to follow the hunt thanks to the dogs and they loved it. The Singing type Beagles derived their name because of the voice. Actually, Beagles are bred for rabbit hunting. Nowadays, many Beagle clubs hold field trials. The dogs hunt various games: rabbits, hare, raccoons, and birds.

Beagles Breeders - Character of the Breed

Beagles are not obedient as they are hunting dogs. Scents and moving objects easily distract them and they set their own rules. The dogs can also easily get lost as they like to roam and never return home. They may also become a target for thieves.

Do not leave the dogs alone with babies, as the dogs can be dangerous for them. For older children, the breed is an ideal one. Beagles are very friendly and loyal dogs that are good with strangers. Therefore, Beagles may get into trouble easily.
